1962 - Little Richard headlined a show in Liverpool, with a then relatively unknown group called the Beatles serving as an opening act.

1968 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience got its start in London.

1968 - John Sebastian departed the Lovin' Spoonful to pursue a solo career.

1975 - Rod Stewart and the Faces performed their final concert together. The band broke up after Stewart ‘s endeavors to further develop his solo career.

1978 – The Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, who was found dead with several knife wounds in her abdomen. However, Vicious died of a heroin overdose before his trial ever began.

1983 - Karen Carpenter earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1985 - The B-52s' Ricky Wilson died at the age of 32 from complication of AIDS.

1991 - The RIAA certified Nirvana's breakthrough album Nevermind as a gold record.

1996 - The film documentary The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus was released. The work had been filmed nearly thirty years earlier in December 1968.

1997 - John Denver died at 53 years of age when the plane he was piloting crashed in Monterey Bay, California.
